Wow...today was my first day as a mechwarrior, I still cannot believe it! I don't feel any different. But now I have a mech! Yesterday was the graduating parade for all the new ranger mechwarriors, I was so proud, especially when I saw the smiles on the faces of all the rangers who'd raised me since as far as I can remember. Then my name was called, I came to attention, gave the best salute of my life and in my drill voice, barked "SIR! YES, SIR!" I marched up to the hastily erected reviewing stand along side the 16 other newly minted mechwarriors to receive our tech manuals. Shock was my reaction when Col. Darby handed me my tech manual and commission as a ranger corporal, "MAD-AAH MARAUDER II" I barely remembered shaking his hand and saluting. Later once we were on the Westmoreland, bound for the jumpship that would take the Iron Rangers to their next (and my first) combat assignment, the Colonel approached me and offered his personal congratulations (Bear told me I was good but a 100ton mech, commission as a corporal and the colonel's personal congratulations, I thought that old warhorse had been humouring me) and told me to be more careful when I shook an officer's hand, in little over a month, we'd be in battle and I almost put him on the injured list! I offered my sincerest apology I could muster, but he said it was okay. He then informed me I'd be attached to the regimental command lance! He said they'd need the firepower. If I hadn't been at a half G I'd have dropped, but incredibly I stayed up, saluted and then the colonel was gone, he has that weird thing about him, he just disappears...at any rate it's good to be off that shithole of a planet, I know we needed a world to hold the ceremony on and the local was nice (in the middle of a forest with trees taller than the Colonel's Atlas) I would have liked to have some people watching besides rangers (preferably female 15-18 years old, ect...) it was the most magnificent parade I've ever been part of, the chaplain and the entire command staff along with the entire mech complement of HQ company! Even with my features that would have impressed some girls. But even if there had been some admirers around to ask some of us to a dance or whatever civilians do, we had to bug out right afterwards, after all, can't keep the Nova Cats waiting now can we? Besides I only would have seen them in black and white anyways (not that I would have been looking!). All right, that's all for now, all us shiny new warriors (16 mech warriors, 67 vehicle crew, 7 aerospace pilots and 119 infantry) get the week off to get used to our new gear (my Marauder II being the prize piece!) and I am going to take advantage of it (snore).
