Dragon’s Tale, A The story of a Clan warrior. (Note: Many homegrown universe references) by Dark Dragon |
|
“Attention! Now calling all mechwarriors of operation ‘Supply and Demand,’ report to the main war room immediately for briefing. Repeat! All mechwarriors of operation ‘Supply and Demand’ report to the main war room immediately for briefing.” Suddenly blared the loud speaker in my quarters.
I looked at my chronometer “I’ll be damned it’s that time already” I said to myself
I was excited. This was to be my first mission as a member of Sakahn Tiamat’s star. Not the easies thing to accomplish, even for a galaxy commander like myself. After all, his exploits are almost legendary… most recently his sim battle with Canis (the Kahn had it recorded).
As I walked through into the briefing room, the Sakahn spoke “All right fellow wolves here are the plans. As you know, we have fought Clan Dragon Shadow quite a bit… but so far, neither of us has gained any real advantage. That changes today! So far, all we have done is defend our territory from their assaults however, this time we are going to strike them hard! You see all of Clan Dragon Shadows logistics are done with slave labor from textile factories to the ferrous fiber refineries. We are going to hit one of their main armor refineries. In my early piloting days, I was assigned to guard this particular plant. In not only is it the biggest armor facility its also one of the least forgiving labor facilities the Shadow Dragons have…and I plan on using that to our advantage…
“The facility itself consist manly of several barracks lined around a large mine shaft this shaft is used for mining ferrite ore used for Ferro fib armor prisoners are used to mine the ore and transport it to the facility usually along this route here” tiamat traced his finger along a large paved road. “I figure we make the drop here about 2.5km south of the labor facility, this will put us just out of range of their sensors the star will consist mainly light to med mechs. I will be piloting my mad dog take what ever light or med mechs you feel comfortable with just keep their speed relatively high as this isn’t the usual brute force type of mission, our objective is to disrupt the labor camp and during the confusion capture the refinery.”
So I need a light or med mech, I thought to myself, not a problem there, I still had a question though… I spoke up “what about the actual planetary environment anything we should expect?”
“Good question. Forgive me but I don’t recognize your face what do they call you young mechwarrior?”
“I am galaxy commander Nocturnes Pryde and my call sign is Dark Lord” I replied.
“Ahh Nocturnes! Now I remember… well, since the planet itself is rather cold heat won’t be much of an issue the terrain is fairly mountainous especially near the facility and refinery… so jump jets would be a good idea other than that there are no real threats to us other than clan Dragon Shadow forces.”
“Well people get your mech choices and load outs to me by 0900 tomorrow as we leave at 1500 hours!” until then, stay out of trouble”
As I headed out the door, I was stopped when a hand was laid upon my shoulder. I turned to see who owned the hand and was startled to see that its owner was the Sakahn.
Nocturnes, I wanted to have a few words with you…” Tiamat said to me.
“Uhhhhh…” Was all I could manage.
“Don’t worry its nothing bad.” He replied “Actually its about your past track record….. according to it you are one hell of a pilot also I noticed you worked your way up the ranks pretty quick. But enough of that! All I really wanted to do is ask if you would provide me back up in my command star. As you know, I am taking a three star nova planet side. Canis is leading one of the assault stars the other assault star is being led by Selena… but I would be honored if you would accompany me in the command star.”
“I would be honored my Sakahn.” I said.
“Well have fun Nocturnes. I will see you tomorrow remember logistics or I need your mech and load out by 0900 tomorrow so we can launch on time.”
The next morning I brought my mech load out specs to the Sakahn, he began to read over them “Shadowcat chassis… 10 extreme range small lasers….” He looked up at me “why this is one of my variants and a good one at that.”
"I thought it would be a good idea to have a close range mech on this mission I figured it would be a good design to protect you in combat.” I replied
“Good thinking Nocturnes. I will have this ready for ASAP go ahead and prep your quarters aboard the drop ship, then get some rest this will be a long mission”

“Attention all Wolves! Attention all Wolves! We will be entering the planet's atmosphere in approximately 5 min. All pilots power up your mechs and be ready for planet fall!” came a rather feminine yet electronic voice over the loud speakers in the pilots lounge
“All Right! Time to slay some shadow dragons!” I shouted as I swiftly exited the pilots lounge into the mech hanger and climbed into my Shadow Cat
“Command leader this command 1 do you read command leader?” I said over the comm. system
“This is command leader I read you loud and clear Dark Lord. Command leader to all pilots comm. check!
Alpha leader here. Alpha star good to go!” canis said, “let us go kill some dragons!”
I looked out of my cockpit in time to see Tamat shoot a dirty look in Canis’s direction
“Bravo leader here bravo star good to go!” said Selina “Lets make certain my husband is avenged, my Sakahn”
The rest of the team made the checks one after another then the computer once again made an announcement “Attention all Wolves! Attention all Wolves! Commencing planet fall repeat commencing planet fall!” and with that there was a large jarring sensation that not even my mech’s legs could fully absorb as the drop ship landed on the planet in the middle of a large valley.
As the doors came to life so did my comm. “Command lead here alpha star take the left flank, bravo star you take the right. MOVE OUT!”
With that command, 15 light to medium weight battlemechs were set into motion by there respective pilots
“Command lead here. We are nearing the labor camp all mechs engage thermographics and power down your radar we don’t want them to know we are here just yet…”
“Alpha lead here. My radar is not responding, thermographics are good but I cannot disengage the radar”
“Command lead here dammit Canis this is some bad timing head back to the drop ship and await further orders we cannot afford to be detected this time”
“Command lead here. Engage radio silence now!”
“Command one here, sorry to break silence so soon but I just picked up a coded transmission from our side to theirs.”
“Command lead here, this is not good, can you pinpoint the traitor?”
“No sir.”
“Damn we are going to have to deal with it people! Command lead to all pilots there is a traitor in our midst expect heavy resistance!”
After covering several kilometers we came to a small ridge over which, according to our intelligence, should be the location of the labor camp…
As I rested the hill all I could see were the bright colors of heat signatures I took a quick estimate... there had to be at least 50 assault mechs down there “command lead I am looking at what appears to be at least 50 assault mechs… orders?”
"Command lead here. Alpha and bravo lance report!"
“Alpha 1 here we are approaching the site… Wolves’ Ghost! There has to be over 50 of them down there!
“Bravo lead here, I am seeing the same thing…orders”
“Dammit! Dammit all to hell! Give me a sec to think...command lead to drop ship do you read…. Repeat do you read? Damn we are out of range of the drop zone—“
“Sir! They are powering up!”
“Command lead here, retreat! Repeat retreat! Fall back to the drop zone”
I turned my mech around and began to run watching ER large laser fire erupt all around me over the comm. as we got within sight of the drop ship I heard me system announce “Mech power up detected!” By the wolves’ fury! I swore to myself. I was beginning to think that this battle would be our darkest hour…
“Command lead to drop ship get the hell out of here NOW!”
“Alpha 1 here, I have taken heavy damage ejecti—," was all I heard as alpha 1’s Cougar exploded.
I drew a bead on one of the supernovas that were raining death upon us but before I could fire, my mechs left leg was vaporized. With my mech lying on its side, I saw my Sakahn take down five of them before finally succumbing to my fate...
“Ha! Is this the best a wolf can do? I congratulate you on your bravery at least. I never would have thought you would be able to take down so many… oh well, their failure makes them unfit to pilot anyway. I am known as Ciraxis, my call sign is White Dragon. By the way, I also wish to know the identity of the pilot in the Mad Dog…?”
“It is I Dark dragon.”
“Oh dear how the mighty have fallen, 'tis a shame you had to lower yourself to the level of a mere dog…” with that said I saw an erppc shot fire in Ciraxis general direction but the shot missed the White Dragon’s lone Dire Wolf by mere inches but it didn‘t miss one of the Elemental laden Timber Wolves that accompanied it. “ Ahh the injured dog attempts to bite... well welcome to your new den as you will be here for quite some time most likely until you die! With that said I saw the remaining elementals (6 of them) swarm out to the surviving crippled mechs only three o us left, me Tiamat and Selina.
I watched two of the elementals walk up to my ruined Shadowcat I heard Ciraxis say, “Now dogs if you want to live you will cooperate, or you will not live much longer.”
The battle armor aimed it arm cannons at my cockpit, I quickly got the message and opened my cockpit, and then my world went black….

When I awoke, Tiamat and I were in a large holding cell and I had a rather painful headache.
“Welcome to the realm of the living Nocturnes” Tiamat said to me.
“Where is Selina?” I immediately asked.
“They took her a while ago Tamat replied probably to interrogate her chances are they have already gotten all they can from her and have transferred her into the mines…” Tiamat responded.
Just then two heavily armed guard burst into the room. “That one o’er there!”
Said the one on the left as he pointed at tiamat. Then they drag the struggling Sakahn out of the room and left me to nothing but silence. After a time it was interrupted by a horrendous screaming that sounded like Tiamat, which made me realize that it was THIS not the battle, which was our darkest hour… |
